Pet Aquamation in Orange, Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties including San Fernando & San Gabriel Valleys
As an environmentally-conscious small business, Hearts & Halos strives to help families honor their pets while also being respectful of nature. We proudly offer a gentler, more eco-friendly alternative to conventional cremation in the form of aquamation. Aquamation (or alkaline hydrolysis) is a water-based aftercare technique becoming increasingly popular among pet owners, and it's growing in popularity for humans, too. We are the first licensed small business in California to offer this service.
If you’re considering cremation for your pet’s aftercare, consider aquamation. Contact us to learn more or request our services.
How Does Aquamation Work?
With typical burial, bodies that are buried in the earth are degraded by alkaline hydrolysis, expedited by the soil bacteria – a very slow process. Aquamation uses alkaline hydrolysis to accelerate natural decomposition, combining gentle water flow, temperature, and various minerals to completely decompose the body.
What Makes It Different from Fire Cremation?
Similar to fire cremation, the only solid remains are the mineral ash of the bones (usually 20% more than with fire). However, the ash from aquamation is lighter in color because it is cleaner and does not have carbon discoloration. The remaining bone and ash need to go through a drying period of about a day or two before being returned to the family.
